The name "Serengeti" comes from a Maasai word meaning endless plains.This overture represents the composer's depiction of this huge area of Africa with its massive migrations of some 70 large mammal populations and over 500 bird species as well as the diverse habitats that are present. One can listen to this piece and imagine the large animals, the flocks of birds and the beautiful scenery of the Serengeti.
