Wishing to Play the Same Tune
A cappella
Publisher Desc.
The song was written in 1938 during the turmoil of the Sino-Japanese War
and was more recently made popular by the Taiwanese singer Feng Fei-Fei. It
portrays the uncertainty of unrequited love, the continual hope of this love
being returned, and the desire to know whether there may be a future to be
shared. On a deeper level, this song portrays the uncertainty of political
freedom; over the past several hundred years, Taiwan has experienced rule by
various foreign powers, leading to feelings of helplessness, loss of
autonomy,
and distrust of outsiders.
