Of the Father's Love Begotten
Publisher Desc.
Based on the ancient Latin text by Prudentius Aurelius, made famous by the evocative translations of Neale and Davis, this new setting of Corde Natus ("Of the Father's Love Begotten") presents a beautiful choral reflection on love, creation and worship. Sometimes associated with Advent or Christmas, the lyrics are typically associated with the Gregorian chant: "Divinum Mysterium" - a style of singing that is difficult for many congregations, even when updated to modern notation in hymnals. This anthem re-presents the timeless lyrics with steady meter, regular phrases full of step-wise melodic motion, aawith plenty of unison and light choral harmony. It functions both as a piece suitable for amateur choirs, as well as having enough challenges to engage a more advanced choir. The piano part flows in and through the melody, leading to the punctuating moment of each verse: "Alleluia."
