Night Soundings for Orchestra
This three-movement original work for full orchestra includes intense, programmatic themes. "Cloak of Darkness" depicts the eerie hour just before dawn, wherein chromatic whirlwinds of sound and evocative melodies emerge until the brass end the nightmare with a brief phrase of Dies Irae, our Day of Wrath. "Notturno" opens with luminous and eerie wisps of night sounds. Woodwind and string melodies portray the dry whisper of leave and the rustle of night creatures. "Midnight Tango" is an exploration of the dance that originated in the 1890s in the Rio de la Plata in South America. The seductive tango begins softly, and as the music sinuously builds in volume and energy, more instruments embrace the themes before driving to an ecstatic, frenetic ending.
