Discussion is a solid, well-written quartet for unpitched percussion and timpani. As the title implies, the four players toss rhythmic ideas back and forth throughout the piece. Sometimes there's one idea shared between the four of them represented by split rhythms. Sometimes there is one idea responded to by another, represented by call and response. Sometimes they all wind up trying to get their points across at the same time and the rhythms come together in layers and unisons. The set-ups are small and low-maintenance. An all-around winner!
