The Canzon Super Canzionem Gallicam, upon which this concert band arrangement is based, is widely known today. There are numerous live performances and recordings of this piece by groups ranging from recorder consorts and early music ensembles to modern string or brass ensembles. This arrangement affords performers the chance to enjoy the polyphonic, imitative style of music which was created during the early Baroque period in northern Germany.
