Originally composed for string quartet in 1922, this single-movement work by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius was re-scored by the composer in 1938 for string orchestra and timpani. This new arrangement was first performed in a radio broadcast on January 1st, 1939, conducted by the composer. It remains the only recorded example of the composer interpreting one of his own works.
