The magic of this piece is found in the way the composer creates suspense in building up to the powerful main theme employing short, energetic motives that yield to a rhythmic ostinato, eventually laying the ground work to support accentuated long tones in the brasses. Besides offering nice opportunities to work on intonation and stylistic contrast, it's a lot of fun to conduct.
