The title refers to the region that includes most of the southern half of the state of Louisiana, and the music reflects the Cajun culture and heritage that is prominent in that area. Composed in three movements with the first being in a lively dance setting that features Cajun rhythmic features. The second movement is an emotional musical expression in memory of the victims of Hurricane Katrina based on an ancient Cajun ballad. The third movement is a spirited dance, also based an a old Cajun folk melody, that reflects the sheer joy of a celebration of life.
